IV therapy delivers fluids, electrolytes, vitamins, and minerals directly into the bloodstream, bypassing digestive absorption. At Pinnacle Performance & Wellness in Lubbock, Texas, infusions are administered in a medical clinic under the supervision of Stuart Riggins, FNP-C — including hydration and recovery drips, high-dose vitamin C and immune formulations, and NAD+ infusions. Appointments are at 8347 Upland Avenue.

The Rationale
Oral supplements pass through the gut, where absorption is partial and highly variable — some nutrients are capped by transporter saturation regardless of dose, and gastrointestinal tolerance limits how much you can take at once. An infusion bypasses that step, so blood levels rise faster and higher than an oral dose can achieve.
Where that genuinely matters is narrower than the industry advertises. It matters for correcting real dehydration quickly, for documented deficiencies, for patients with malabsorption, and for delivering doses that are simply not achievable orally. It matters less if you eat reasonably, hydrate, and have no deficiency — in that case the infusion largely tops up stores your body will excrete. Pinnacle will tell you which of those two situations you are in, which is the practical difference between a clinic and a drip bar.
The Menu
| Infusion | Typical contents | Common use |
|---|---|---|
| Hydration & Recovery | Balanced electrolyte fluid, B-complex, magnesium, anti-nausea or anti-inflammatory add-ons where indicated | Post-competition, illness, travel, heat exposure, post-surgical support |
| Performance | Fluids, amino acids, B vitamins, magnesium, trace minerals | Training block recovery, heavy competition weeks |
| Immune Support | High-dose vitamin C, zinc, B-complex | Around illness or high-exposure periods |
| Myers-style | Magnesium, calcium, B vitamins, vitamin C | The long-standing general formulation |
| NAD+ | NAD+ at graded dosing, infused slowly | Cellular energy metabolism support; see disclosure above |
Formulations are adjusted by the provider based on your history, medications, and labs. Add-ons are available. Nothing is administered without screening — this is a clinical service, not a menu.
Safety
Screening exists for a reason. IV therapy is generally not appropriate, or requires specific caution, for patients with congestive heart failure or fluid-overload risk, significant kidney disease, uncontrolled hypertension, a history of G6PD deficiency (relevant for high-dose vitamin C), certain electrolyte disorders, or during pregnancy without obstetric clearance. Some vitamins interact with medications, including chemotherapy agents and anticoagulants.
Every patient is screened before a first infusion, and some are declined or referred. A facility that will run an IV on anyone who walks in and pays is skipping the step that makes it safe.
The Experience
You arrive, a provider reviews your history and current medications, and vitals are taken. An IV is placed and the infusion runs while you sit — 30 to 60 minutes for most formulations, and considerably longer for NAD+, which must be infused slowly because rapid administration commonly causes chest tightness, flushing, cramping, and nausea. NAD+ appointments are usually scheduled for two to four hours depending on dose, and the rate is slowed if you feel it.
You are monitored throughout by clinical staff. Most people work, read, or take calls. You can drive afterward. Mild bruising at the IV site is the most common after-effect.
